In today’s The Big Story podcast, a number of us have a preferred garment– a sweatshirt we’ve been using for the last 10 years, or a set of sweatpants we toss on every night before cozying up in front of some Netflix. There’s all those other clothing, the t-shirts you purchase on sale that are fortunate to make it through 10 wash cycles, or the sweatshirts that tablet up nearly immediately.

Significantly, it seems like a growing number of clothing come from that 2nd classification. And it’s not simply so-called ‘‘ quick style’ any longer, as the push to produce more for less drags down the quality of even the most credible brand names.

Monika Warzecha is the digital editor at The Walrus, where she discussed quick style. “We’ve seen various grades and various blends of polyester or other synthetics, which can make them a bit more vulnerable to damage when you sort of like snag a t-shirt on something, fibers may break and it’s a bit harder to repair.,” stated Warzecha.

Why has it end up being so challenging to discover a good set of trousers that’ll last more than a couple of months? And how do we resist versus a culture that significantly sees clothes as non reusable?
